Upgrade Fedora Core 3 / probs and questions

Hello,

I am new to this list and liek to introduce myself. My name is Stefan,
35 years old and I am an IT Consultant and developer from germany.

I worked with Fedora Core 2 and WIndows as an dualbootsystem and did my
development for windows on the one and the webdevelopment on the other
OS. Worked perfect for me.

Today I upgraded to Fedora Core 3 (stable version) and have some
problems that I would like to fix - but I guess, I need some help. Would
be great to find it here.

I upgraded the version from 2 to 3 and did no new installation.

My points are:

If I start "Add/remove applications" and the packetmanager appears, just
a few boxes are marked. For example GNOME is unmarked - but I worked
with gnome and it is definitively installed. The same with KDE, Audio
and Video and certain others. How can I tell this tool to remember the
upgraded packages? I´m not sure but I guess it will install the old
packages, if I mark for example GNOME.

I have a Logitech wireless keyboard with multimediabuttons. In FC2 I
added these buttons to the keyboardsettings in the section preferences.
It was great to in- or decrease the volumne and so on. Now it does not
work anymore - even, if I reconfigure the keystrokes. What happens is,
that it just knows full power volumne (my cat was beside the subwoofer
when I tested it the first time - I guess she is now 30 miles away and
still running) or nothing.

The RedhatUpdateIcon disappeared after the installation and does not
work anymor. I cannot add it to the panel.

Does anybody know a great clienttool for working with MSSQL databases?
That´s all I need to move finally to Linux :-)

Everything else seems to work perfectly.

Thanks in advance!

Stefan
