The trouble with xdosemu, is that when the client opens a xdosemu session on the server machine, it only shows a black screen instead of character's dos session. Besides, it complains with: 'ERROR: X: No graphics modes supported on this type of screen!'
have you seen this?

Perhaps you could compare the output of "xdpyinfo" or the X config files between the working and non-working servers.
