RE: Promise FastTrack drivers for FC2

Me neither, I'm running right now 2 servers that use different 3ware 9000 series cards (one with 2 8-port and another one with a 12-port). One is SMP the other UP, and both have the pre-compiled driver found in the update package for the kernel (2.6.8-1.521).

BTW, I forgot to say that you must remove the old 3ware driver from /etc/modprobe.conf then reboot for the new driver to work properly (at least on my experience). It looks like during the installation FC2 treats the 9000 card as a 7000/8000 card and tries to load the 3w-xxxx driver, and it's left in /etc/modprobe.conf (even loaded into the kernel until you manually remove it).

I don't know why it didn't work for you. Maybe you didn't use the full path in your insmod command line. BTW, the driver filename doesn't match the module name [for 3w-9xxx]. That means:

insmod /lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/3w-9xxx.ko

or

insmod /lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521/kernel/drivers/scsi/3w-9xxx.ko

but

rmmod 3w-9xxx won't work, 'cause the module is called 3w_9xxx

instead use

rmmod 3w_9xxx

I know most of the list readers could find this out by yourselves, but sometimes this silly stuff is useful for some begginner who just happens to be stuck with something like this.

I can not acknowledge this statement!

/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/3w-9xxx.ko

You see I am running the Fedora Core 2 kernel (just SMP version) and _it
has_ the requested module. I don't know why you miss it.
