Disabling ACPI means to pass the kernel a parameter to do so. At boot
time press "a" while being at grub boot screen. Then add to the kernel
line "acpi=off apm=on" (all without quotes). Then boot. If this setting
helps you make it permanent to add these switches to the kernel line in
/etc/grub.conf.
