If this is a P4 check the temperature.  Apparently there is a
termperature triggered clock throttling feature.

Looking at the config of a FC3test kernel I see:

  "check for P4 thermal throttling interrupt. (X86_MCE_P4THERMAL)
  
  "Enabling this feature will cause a message to be printed when the P4
  enters thermal throttling."

So if you have a P4 it may have throttled or unthrottled the 
processor clock.
