Linux (or any other OS for that matter) shouldn't really care if it is a camera or not, and 
just see it as a drive.

Have you tried adding a line to your fstab? If not man fstab should be the 
first place to look.

When you've done that, GNOME will show it in the computer dir, or in KDE goto devices:/
