So you don't understand. The order does not matter in this case. From
left to right it is even a fallback order.

If you prefer.

I would enforce usage of STARTTLS for PLAIN and LOGIN mechanisms (to
ensure the auth data is not transmitted in clear text over the net) and
feed the /usr/lib/sasl2/Sendmail.conf file with following additional
line:

mech_list: PLAIN LOGIN CRAM-MD5 DIGEST-MD5
