Firstly, try running XFce; its more light-weight. Next, I can only
recommend more RAM

Also, from the release notes
(http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/):

      * Minimum for text-mode: 128MB
        
      * Minimum for graphical: 256MB
        
      * Recommended for graphical: 512MB
