I noticed that some of the fonts on the system
are compressed.

Why are they compressed?

How can you use them when they are compressed?

I found compressed fonts in the following
directories under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/

100dpi/, 75dpi/, encodings/ and misc/.
