Mozilla & FireFox have separate plugins directories. You'll need to copy
the acroread plugin into your firefox specific plugins dir.

using my system as an example (locations may vary)

cp /usr/lib/acroread/Browsers/intellinux/nppdf.so \
/usr/local/firefox/plugins/
