Yes, but the 2.6 kernels do not work with APM for me - it will suspend but not resume.
Or maybe there are other things to do apart from add acpi=off to the boot arguments?
Which machine is this? perhaps others have similar hardware.
I was really hoping there would be some people saying 'the whole range of models from manufacturer X work fine'
FWIW I use an IBM Thinipad T40 - which works reasonably well with APM
