it's something outside of fedora for you, probably hardware issues.  i'm
running on a pIII 700 with 128mb of ram and it's just fine, better than
FC1 in alot of ways.

mozilla loads in less than 30 (i havn't timed it yet) to be sure.  open
office loads in less than 45 seconds.

kde crashing all the time sounds like you're having hardware problems, put
in the first fedora disc and run memtest86 for a few hours from the boot
prompt.
