You might try one of the following kernel boot parameters to your /etc/grub.conf:

apm=on

acpi=on

eg:

title Fedora Core (2.4.22-1.2174.nptl) root (hd0,2) kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi acpi=on rhgb initrd /initrd-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl.img
