The kernel Promise RAID module is very slow, even some kind of
experimental. The source code driver by Promise is not much better. See
their commenting on the download page. (I did my performance tests with
both drivers and Linux software RAID and was very disappointed from the
drivers.)

I highly recommend using software RAID by Fedora GNU/Linux. It is faster
and you have much better chances in case of array errors to handle these
without loosing data.
