Possibly the issue is that W98 and W2k and up send encrypted
passwords, where older versions sent passwords in the clear. Maybe
Samba is expecting encrypted passwords and the Mess-DOS machine is
sending in clear? Take a look in the Samba docs on encrypted passwords.
