Thanks, Peter. Perfect and just what I needed. Now I have resolutions far beyond what I can use.

Try putting Option "UseBIOS" "off" in the device section of your
/etc/X11/XF86Config

Like this:


Section "Device"
        Identifier  "Videocard0"
        Driver      "savage"
        VendorName  "Videocard vendor"
        BoardName   "S3 ProSavage KM133"
        Option      "UseBIOS" "off"
EndSection

We  have a couple of Shuttle SK41G with an S3 Savage KM133 video and
this did the trick for me.

Before I did this any time X started (except for 640X480) I'd get a
signal from the video card out of the range of any of my monitors.

I found this trick somewhere in a posting in the goggle Usenet
archives.
