Is there a better system monitor applet then one that is included in Fedora? I would like one that is a little more configurable and provides more information.

I think gkrellm is pretty informative. There are about a "bazillion" skins for it, and among the data it can provide is weather, if you install the plug-in.
It's been a while since I installed the weather plugin, but I believe it may be as easy as:
# yum install gkrellm-weather
At any rate, I just installed all that yum could install for gkrellm with:
# yum install gkrellm*
gkrellm's a nice piece of informative eye candy for the desktop!
