You can switch DMA mode off and running that thing in PIO mode using "hdparm -d0 /dev/hdX". If after that the errors disappear you have luck. If not, I fear your drive is at end of lifetime.

I don't think you can turn off DMA on the fly anymore, only at boot time.

Look in /etc/sysconfig/harddisks , set  USE_DMA=0
