I use Evolution and am very happy with it.  If you want the most
flexibility, consider setting up an IMAP server like Courier or Cyrus (I
use the latter).  Then you can use any IMAP client you want, including
Evolution and mutt or pine (for non-GUI), or even web mail if your heart
desires.
