D-Link DFE-690TXD works only after reinserted

Hello:

I have a strange problem.  I am running Fedora Core 1 on a Dell Inspiron
3500 laptop.  I have a D-Link DFE-690TXD cardbus ethernet card.
Everything worked fine during the installation and the card worked
without my needing to do anything to enable it.

Unfortunately, when I shut down the machine, leave it off for 
a while, and come back to it, the card does not work until I pull
it out and reinsert it into the cardbus slot.  Once I do that, 
everything works just fine again.  I don't have to change any settings
or anything.

As you can see, it does recognize the card but it shows timeouts on the
transmissions.  

When I pull out the card, this message comes in /var/log/messages:

It says that it is missing the 8139too driver, but everything works just
fine
from this point on.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
