Thanks to all for your help. It is now working.

Andrea you are exactly right there was no glx kernel modules, therefore
it can't load something that isn't there.

Thank you Keith for the src.rpm. I did a rebuild per your instructions
and everything is working just fine now.

Save yourself a lot of trouble messing about with configs and just get
the
src.rpm from Livna.

Get nvidia-driver-1.0.5328-0.lvn.1.pkg1.src.rpm
from http://rpm.livna.org/~anvil/fedora/

And do:
rm -f /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i368/*nvidia*.rpm
rpmbuild --rebuild nvidia-driver-1.0.5328-0.lvn.1.pkg1.src.rpm

Then do:
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i368/*nvidia*.rpm
