Hi Ed,
I tried the rpm package of 2.6 yesterday.
>Would it be the same as any other rpm install?
Yes. You should issue the command
rpm -ihv kernel-2.6xxxxx.rpm.
This will take care of GRUB if you use it. Your old 2.4 kernel is still there to reboot into if there is any problem with 2.6.
For me, 2.6 still has some kinks needed to be ironed out. My usb mouse does not function though it functions under 2.4. 2.6 loads much slower than 2.4. Don't use it as a production kernel just yet. The first time I boot my PIII 1Ghz laptop with 2.6 it crashed right before the login screen. The second time it booted up fine but no usb mouse, only the built in touchpad worked. So I erase 2.6 on my machine. I might give it another try sometime this weekend.
Caution: don't do a rpm -Uhv. This will wipe out your good old 2.4.

Cheers to Linus, et al for their great works :)

Would it be the same as any other rpm install? After install if their is a kernel panic could I choose to boot the older kernel if I do not modify the fstab?
