Fedora Users — ADSL connection

To check what is wrong in a ADSL connection (by Ethernet modem, that is working in Windows) that doesn't connect by Network control graphical tool, which steps shall I follow, i.e. which files shall I have to read and what console operations are suggested?? It is a normal PPoE connection!!! third Fedora that I installed, two works great..maybe a stupid setup somewhere..
