Hi Francois,

 Thanks for your reply.

I do not have the answar that you expect but some information could help:
- which motherboard is it ?
- can you send a dmesg for 2.6.20.1 as well as a lspci -vvx from your
  computer ?

The motherboard is the latest revision of the MB720F mini ITX:
http://www.ibase-i.com.tw/mb720.htm

I have attached my dmesg and lspci -vvx output at the bottom of the message.

If I read you correctly, this version of the driver is less broken than
the others, right ?

Correct. On this board none of the versions of r8169 I backported to
2.6.15-1 were able to successfully put any data on the wire. The eth
interface gets created, and the device does properly report the link
status up/down (as shown at the bottom of the dmesg output below), but
that's it afaik. The r1000 driver sends a bit of data as I had
elaborated in the original email.

If you are brave, you can try the patch below against 2.6.20-rc1:
http://www.fr.zoreil.com/people/francois/misc/20070221-2.6.21-rc1-r8169-test.patch

Thanks for providing that - however I just tried it, and I get the
same results as with module I backported from 2.6.20 (that is, device
is recognized but no data is sent on the wire).
