i forgot about a dependency, -VP also needs this patch:

 http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.12/2.6.12-mm2/broken-out/sched-tweak-idle-thread-setup-semantics.patch

could you check that this patch ontop of -git8 indeed fixes the boot 
problem for you?
